AN INTRO: NOT YOUR KIND OF ARTIST JAMAICA
NOT YOUR KIND OF ARTIST: Parts 1 — 4 is an ongoing project that I started working on in 2017. A number of of the projects and exhibitions I have done are related to new media art experimentations, art installations, and how cognitive psychology plays a role in my self-expression. I try to make my creative process more accessible by taking advantage of the endless possibilities of new media technologies.
Some of my major influences have been mathematics, music/sound, science and technology etc. Most of my digital images begin with abstract illustrations generated from scratch or a photo/video to convey mysterious, unfamiliar beauty. I experiment with depth, texture, dramatic colours, and my ideas, utilising the relationship between art and technology to connect the results through experimental narratives.
I have always wanted to collaborate with other professionals—such as educators, musicians, psychiatrists, scientists, engineers, and more—exploring how my approach art-making can positively contribute to their fields. As a Jamaican artist, I resist being boxed into expected themes, embracing experimentation and discovery as essential to the creative process. My goal is to create art that fosters socio-emotional development, challenges perceptions, and inspires new ways of thinking. This journey is about pushing artistic boundaries, fostering accessibility, and using my art as a medium for psychological and emotional exploration—all while maintaining a spirit of discovery and innovation. My work will continue to dismantle stereotypes and labels, encouraging open-minded engagement with art beyond external categorisations. I am committed to continuous professional and artistic growth, learning new techniques and technologies to refine my practice and contribute meaningfully to contemporary art and society.
